Tree City Again, Naturally

Friday, April 28, 2017

While city officials learned early in April that Greencastle has earned the Tree City USA designation for the 18th straight year, what better way to celebrate the honor than with an Arbor Day tree planting. Local leaders and residents actually gathered twice for local tree plantings on Earth Day last Saturday and on Tuesday (pictured) when Mayor Bill Dory proclaimed the day to be “Greencastle Arbor Day.” A third planting was scheduled Friday for the national observation of Arbor Day, but muddy conditions and incoming storms prompted its cancellation.

Putting in work for the future of Robe-Ann Park in Greencastle, 5-year-old Blake Hamblet digs a hole for a tree planting with a little help from Greencastle Parks Director Rod Weinschenk on Tuesday. Several trees were planted as city officials and residents gathered to observe Earth Day and Arbor Day this week.
