As more rain fell on Thursday, adding to at least seven inches that have fallen since the middle of last week, a number of low-lying roads in Putnam County have been closed due to flooding.

The hardest hit areas are near major streams in the county, including Big Walnut Creek, Raccoon Creek, Mill Creek and Eel River.

The extreme southern part of the county has been hit especially hard.

Areas throughout the county have been affected, as rain continues to fall on already saturated ground. Only Jackson Township had no closed roads as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

County Highway Supervisor Mike Ricketts released a map to the Banner Graphic with the affected areas highlighted.

Ricketts emphasized that the list is not necessarily up-to-date or comprehensive, as continuing rain will bring with it changes.

“This will change during the night as some of the water is receding, while roads next to the major creeks will continue to rise,” Ricketts said.
