Tanks for the Memories

Monday, May 8, 2017
On display during a special Veterans’ Open House Saturday at the Putnam County Museum in Greencastle, a paper mache Sherman tank is the creation of Dustin Byrd (center), an artist at Green Light Art Studio, a new Putnam County Comprehensive Services (PCCS) venture. Byrd, with assistance from Vonda Wood (left), Cody Surface and others, said he made the tank to honor his great-uncle who was a tank driver, and his great-grandfather who was in the U.S. Airborne during World War II. Staff at PCCS assisted in taping together an outline of the tank in cardboard and then Byrd and his friends paper mached it and made the American flag and drawing to display with it.
