Greencastle 150, Northview 180 — Jake Bennett shot a career-best 33 to win medalist honors and lead the Tiger Cubs to an easy victory.

Blaise Hasty added a 36 as Greencastle shot the best four rounds of the match.

Jaxon Parmley added a 40, Kyle Tesmer had a 41, Conner Taylor had a 42, Josh Bomgardner had a 49, Sam Hagen had a 50 and Brett Sosebee had a 63.

“The Tiger Cubs put together four consistent scores in defeating Northview,” Greencastle coach Steve Paquin said. “Jake Bennett had an outstanding two under par 33 for his lowest score ever.”

Paquin noted that Hasty’s score was one over par and that Tesmer had his lowest score of the season.

“This was the lowest team score by the Cubs this season,” Paquin said. “It was a beautiful day of weather and the scores reflected the warm temps.”

The Cubs will play in the county tournament at Clover Meadows on Thursday.

Eagles busy — South Putnam recently lost a dual match to Edgewood and finished second in a triangular match with Owen Valley and Monrovia.

Edgewood defeated the Eagles 180-229. Tyler Hicks led the Eagles with a 49, while Ryan Neumann and Jared Seidler each had a 59, Levi Girton had a 62, Justin Pitts had a 63 and Thomas Fanning shot a 70.

Owen Valley had a score of 182 in the triangular meet, while South Putnam had 209 and Monrovia had 250.

Hicks had the second-best round of the day with a 44 to lead the Eagles. Owen Valley’s Dakota Grier was the medalist with a 41.

Other Eagle scores were Neumann with a 53, Fanning with a 60, Girton with a 66 and Seidler with a 67.

Danville 137, North Putnam 208 — Following the cancellation of two matches and limited practice time due to weather conditions, the NP Cougars returned to the course on Monday for their first match since April 27.

“Unfortunately for a young and inexperienced team, the time off would not be what the doctor ordered and it showed in the Cougar’s first home match of the season,” NP coach Earl Hall said. “Add to that an unfortunate shoulder injury to Cougar player Marcus Burdine and it became a very long evening for the North Putnam remaining players.”

Zane Mason and R.J. Batchelor each had 65 for the Cougars, while Peyton Myers added a 78.

“On an afternoon that saw the sun play peek-a-boo with the clouds, the time off and lack of competition shown through as the NP players struggled to find a rhythm to their games,” Hall said. “The first home match, slow starts by the players, and a bit of uncertainty in their games, led to the Cougars trying to play catch up against a strong and veteran team from Danville.”

The Cougars will play in the county tourney on Thursday at Clover Meadows.

Clay City 166, Cloverdale 189 — At Forest Park, Clay City’s Nathan Farmer was the medalist with a 36 as the Eels picked up the win.

Zach Nichols and Zarek Wellington each led Cloverdale with a 43, while Drew Boyette shot a 50, Tyler Harrison shot a 53 and Wyatt Helterbrand and Jason Miller each shot a 54.

“Zach and Zarek both played fair rounds, with one bad hole,” Clover coach Doug Wokoun said. “Drew had difficulty finding any rhythm in his swing, and suffered a very uncharacteristic day.

“Tyler played with him, and also was off for most of the round.”

Wokoun thought some of his other golfers showed good signs.

“Wyatt is finally starting to put some things together, although he still has a way to go,” he said. “Jason struggled through the entire round, and after having a pretty good run over the last week or so, is now going to have to rediscover what he had been doing well.”

Wokoun said if his team had been a squad of detectives that it would have won a unit citation.

“We pretty well covered just about every inch of Forest Park,” he said. “That isn’t our goal, however, and so we have a lot of work to do.”

Cloverdale (2-4) hosts the Putnam County Tournament Thursday at Clover Meadows.
