Jed Fajt completed his Greencastle High School tennis career last fall as one of the most successful players in program history.

Fajt went 12-7 last fall at No. 1 singles to surpass 50 career victories, and helped the Tiger Cubs to their third straight sectional title and first-ever Western Indiana Conference crown.

Hanover College is hoping that Fajt’s success will continue on its courts this fall, after Fajt signed a national letter of intent recently to compete for the Division III Panthers.

“I chose Hanover, since they’re a small, close-knit school and I didn’t want to make the jump from Greencastle to a huge school,” Fajt said. “They have a beautiful campus and a good tennis program, which I like.

“Another reason I chose Hanover is because I know I eventually want to coach, and playing college tennis will help get my foot in the door.”

Fajt noted that the Panthers are a successful program, and while earning a varsity spot in his first year may be tough he’s looking forward to the challenge.

“Their team has had recent success, finishing tied for second in their conference last year and I think they finished third in their conference this year,” he said. “I’m not sure if I will be varsity to start off, since they don’t graduate any varsity players. However, I look forward to the challenge of making varsity, and the opportunity to hit with great players everyday.”

Fajt had a 16-7 singles record as a junior, and was happy with the success the Tiger Cubs enjoyed during his career.

“I’m just proud that our team won our third straight sectional and conference for the first time,” he said.

“Jed loves to compete, is a team player and was a strong leader for our tennis program,” GHS tennis coach Kevin Rowe said. “Hanover College is getting a young man of character that will be a complement to their men’s tennis program and an outstanding student-athlete.

“We congratulate Jed and his family on his decision to compete at the collegiate level, and we wish him all the best.”

Fajt is undecided on his field of study, and is considering broadcast journalism or business.
