A man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly discharging a gun during a fight in downtown Greencastle.

Marcus D. Doll, 27, Reelsville, was booked in the Putnam County Jail on charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

No one was seriously injured in the incident.

At 3:18 a.m., Greencastle Police units were dispatched to South Indiana Street for a fight in which 20-30 people were allegedly involved.

Upon his arrival, Sgt. Eric Vaughn heard one shot fired and several people screaming. He proceeded to the intersection of South Vine and East Walnut streets, the area of the alleged altercation.

Vaughn learned that the person who discharged the firearm was leaving in a dark-colored passenger car. He contacted incoming units and instructed them to stop the vehicle.

Putnam County sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Brown was in the vicinity and was able to get the vehicle stopped before it left the parking lot. Three individuals in the vehicle were immediately detained.

The individual who reportedly discharged the firearm was identified as Doll.

“The situation was quickly de-escalated,” Vaughn reported. “The investigation revealed three to four individuals involved in a physical altercation.”

The police report was turned over to the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office.

Doll’s criminal history includes 2006 charges for theft.

No one was injured as a result of the gunshot. However, Operation Life took one individual to Putnam County Hospital for injuries sustained during the physical altercation.

  • If the gun was legally owned and carried hopefully he is convicted of at least one felony so irresponsibly using a gun won't be a (legal) option for him anymore.
