EMMETT HOLSAPPLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brien Holsapple of Roachdale, has received a $1,225 Masonic scholarship from the scholarship board of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, Free and Accepted Masons.

Holsapple’s scholarship was one of 373 selected from more than 400 applicants. He was sponsored by his father, who is a member of Roachdale Lodge No. 602 F & AM.

Emmett plans to apply the Masonic scholarship toward his third year at Indiana State University.

The Grand Lodge of Indiana distributes earnings from an endowment, making it one of the largest fraternal scholarship funds in the country. In the years of its operation, more than $6 million in scholarships have helped more than 7,000 Hoosier students realize their educational goals. Children and stepchildren of Masons and Master Masons who demonstrate academic merit, financial need and community participation may apply for scholarships if they are attending an Indiana college or university.


DUSTIN SUTHERLIN of Greencastle was awarded a degree during commencement ceremonies at Trine University on May 13.

Sutherlin earned a degree in management.

Nearly 1,000 students were part of the Trine University class of 2017.


A pair of local students were named to the Butler University dean’s list for the 2017 spring semester.

MADISYN SMITH of Coatesville is studying pre-pharmacy, while BAILEY BERISH of Greencastle is majoring in health sciences.

Any degree-seeking undergraduate student earning at least 12 academic hours of grade credit in a given semester may be placed on the Dean’s List of the college of enrollment if the semester grade point average is in the top 20 percent of all eligible students in that college.

In the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, it is the top 20 percent of students who are named to the dean’s list.
