ATTICA — Greencastle boys’ golf Steve Paquin had a good feeling going into Friday’s Attica Sectional at Harrison Hills Golf Club, and his feeling proved to be accurate.

The Tiger Cubs shot a 332 to repeat as sectional champions, beating Attica by 15 strokes.

Jake Bennett and Blaise Hasty tied for third with 80s, finishing one stroke behind runnerup Corey Bryant of Seeger. Peyton Snoeberger of Seeger shot a sizzling 71 to easily win medalist honors.

“The sectional went about as I expected,” Paquin said. “We had to shoot a good front nine and then not just self destruct on the back nine. We shot 161 on the front and 10 shots worse [171] on the back.”

Jaxon Parmley added an 83 for the Tiger Cubs, while Conner Taylor shot an 88 and Kyle Tesmer had a 94.

Greencastle’s lead after nine holes was able to hold up, Paquin noted.

“The back nine took its toll on the other teams, and none of them were able to cut into our front nine lead,” he said. “Blaise and Jake had good front nine scores of 37 and 36, while Jaxon and Kyle shot a 41 and 44 with Conner shooting 45. Conner played well on the back with a 43 while all the others scored higher.”

Paquin noted the course is unlike most of the ones his team has played this year, with varying layouts from one half to the other.

“Harrison Hills is a difficult challenge for high school players because the two nines are so different,” he said. “Links lay out on the front and it is hilly, watery and wooded on the back. Most teams are not able to handle the different styles of holes, but we have enough talent to play fairly consistent on both sides.”

Greencastle continued its recent history of success with the win. In the past six years, the Cubs have won four sectionals and qualified for third in two others.

South Putnam finished 11th and North Putnam was 14th.

Tyler Hicks of South Putnam was the top performer for the Eagles with an 87, finishing two shots away from being able to play in the regional as a member of a non-advancing team.

North Putnam was led by Peyton Myers with a 126.

Greencastle will travel to Washington on Wednesday to play a practice round at Country Oaks, with the regional starting at 9:20 on Thursday morning.

The Tiger Cubs will be playing against the No. 2 qualifying team from Linton-Stockton, the No. 2 qualifying team from Vincennes Lincoln and the No. 1 qualifying team from Crispus Attucks off the first tee.

“We are proud and excited to be competing in the regional,” Paquin said.

Cloverdale will compete on Monday in the Martinsville Sectional at the Foxcliff Golf Course.
