More than 400 area residents took advantage of the annual Putnam County Tox-Away Day recently to dispose of appliances, tires and hazardous household waste.

Sponsored by the West Central Solid Waste District, the 2017 Tox-Away Day was conducted May 6 at the Area 30 Career Center.

Residents took advantage of the opportunity to safely dispose of 16 tons of appliances/electronics, 570 tires and untold household hazardous waste, West Central Executive Director Jane Collisi reported.

West Central issued special thanks to Area 30 and Indiana State Trooper Cory Robinson for their assistance with this year’s event.

Area residents have two more opportunities to attend Tox-Away Days -- June 24 at North Montgomery High School, north of Crawfordsville, and Sept. 16 at the Parke County Fairgrounds in Rockville.
