CLOVERDALE — An altercation between two acquaintances sent one man to the hospital Friday evening.

The incident also landed both men — suspected stabber and alleged victim — in the Putnam County Jail.

At around 6 p.m., Cloverdale Officer Luke Brown and Indiana State Trooper David Cox responded to the area of 52 Monon Ave. for a report of a male lying in the roadway.

Upon arrival, officers heard sounds of a struggle inside apartment. They tried to make contact and a male later identified as 19-year-old Tristen Wojcik came to the door saying a second man had been stabbed.

The officers located Dean Knight, 25, with wounds in his leg. He was later transported to Putnam County Hospital by Putnam County Operation Life.

Following treatment at PCH, Knight was taken to the jail and booked in at 9:57 p.m. on the preliminary charge of Class B misdemeanor battery.

Wojcik was booked in at 11:18 p.m. for Level 6 felony battery with moderate bodily injury.

Cloverdale Town Marshal Steve Hibler credited Indiana State Police for the assistance provided to his department, as Hibler was conducting another investigation at the time of the call.

Hibler also thanked CPD Evidence Tech Rick Lambert, whose part-time role has been taxed by the Cloverdale Police Departments recent caseload.

The investigation is ongoing. The case will be turned over to the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office for determination of official charges.
