Banner Graphic/ERIC BERNSEE More than 100 curious visitors tour the historic home at 3 Bloomington St., Greencastle, Saturday in a fundraiser for the Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County. Built as his private home by Elisha Braman, who designed “The Edifice” at DePauw University and a previous Putnam County Courthouse building, the house was later the longtime home of the Mace and Betty Aker family. Visitors get a look at the home inside and out as in the backyard garden Vicki Timm (below) chats with Suzanne Hardesty, while in the family room -- which was added onto the original 1840s structure -- Marcia Murtagh (above), Regina Barcus and Margot Payne talk with Steve Aker and Vicki Timm, who now own the home. The large painting above the fireplace in the family room was done by Steve Aker and features his dog Ike.

  • I have driven by this house probably a million times and always liked looking at it since Becky Aker and I were in the same high school graduation class.
