Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 2:02 a.m. on Monday, Mellissa Bair, 48, Bainbridge, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in 1998 Ford Mustang when she fell asleep at the wheel and the car drifted off the right side of the road, striking an object.

Before the arrival of Deputy Robert Soilleux, first responders found the vehicle still running, with the horn honking and the rear driver side wheel turning with smoke coming off the tire.

Bair was drifting in and out of consciousness when Soilleux arrived. She complained of neck pain and abdominal pain. Operation Life transported Bair from the scene.

The driver was cited for driving without financial responsibility.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 1:20 a.m. on Monday, Gayla S. Burnett, 63, Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 750 South in a 2009 Chevrolet HHR when a deer jumped into the road, colliding with the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 8:19 p.m. on Sunday, an unknown driver fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash on County Road 625 East.

Kristian S. Warrick, 20, Coatesville, was approaching a 90-degree turn in a 1998 Ford Mustang. He told Deputy Anthony Brown he saw a red passenger car in his lane.

Warrick said he moved to the left side of the road to avoid the other vehicle but it hit his left front fender.

The other vehicle then apparently backed up into a driveway and then proceeded northbound.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
