COLLEEN WEATHERFORD of Greencastle graduated in May from Butler University in Indianapolis.

Weatherford was a marketing major.

Butler graduated 955 students on May 11.


MICAYLA LYNN JONES was among 239 students who received the bachelor of arts degree during Hanover College’s 184th annual commencement. The ceremony took place Saturday, May 27.

Jones, an economics major, is the daughter of Dennis and Patricia Jones of Ladoga. Prior to attending Hanover, she graduated from North Putnam High School.


Five Putnam County students graduated from Ball State University in the spring 2017 semester.

ANDREW JACOBS of Greencastle earned his Master of Science.

Earning their Bachelor of Science degrees were PARKER AUL, KATIE ROOKER and REBECCA SAMPSON of Greencastle and JAIKE MATTHEWS of Reelsville.


Four Putnam County students were among the 210 to graduate from Franklin College during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 20.

Putnam County graduates included:

ERIKA DAVIES, daughter of Mr. Colin Davies and Elizabeth Davies of Bainbridge, received a bachelor of arts degree in art studio (graphic design).

JANELLE MASON, daughter of Larry and Bonnie Mason of Greencastle, received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.

KAITLYNNE MASON, daughter of Larry and Bonnie Mason of Greencastle, received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology.

HUNTER SMITH, son of Landon Smith and Bonnie Vicars of Greencastle, received a bachelor of arts degree in religious studies.


Nine Putnam County students were named to the dean’s list at Ball State University for the spring 2017 semester.

Making the grade were PARKER AUL, RACHAEL LUBINSKI, ERIN MACE, REBECCA SAMPSON and JESSICA TUCKER of Greencastle; SAMANTHA FLANNELLY and SYDNEY HARMON of Coatesville; MADISON KING of Fillmore; and JAIKE MATTHEWS of Reelsville.

The dean’s list recognizes undergraduates who earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average for 12 or more credits of graded course.


Eight Putnam County students were recently honored by the University of Indianapolis recently for their academic accomplishments during the spring 2017 semester.

Students on the dean’s list included HANNAH ARNOLD, CLAYTON BYRD, ELIZABETH JOHNSON and ASHLYN YORK of Greencastle. Dean’s list students have completed at least 12 credit hours and earned a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Local students on the honor roll are MALLORY LENIHAN of Greencastle, BRAYDEN MONTGOMERY of Bainbridge and HALEY BENNETT and JEFFREY NORRIS of Coatesville. Students named to the honor roll have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours during a regular semester and earned a grade point average of at least 3.4 but less than 3.7.


A pair of area students recently received Masonic Scholarships from the Schoolarship Board of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, Free and Accepted Masons.

CONNOR BETTIS and KENDAL WHITFORD, both of Rockville, are among the 373 selected. Connor is the son of Scott and Georgena Bettis and Jan Bettis. Kendal is the daughter of Scott and Georgena Bettis and Doug Whitford.

Both students were sponsored by Scott Bettis and their grandfather Marty Evens, both of whom are members of Morton Lodge No. 469 F&AM.

Kendal is entering her second year at Manchester University, while Connor is entering his first year at Manchester.

Master Masons and children and stepchildren of Master Masons who demonstrate academic merit, financial need and community participation may apply for the scholarships if they are attending an Indiana college or university.
