Melvin Wayne Siegelin, 86, of Brazil, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:50 a.m. at The Waters of Greencastle. He had been in failing health for the past several years.

He was born Oct. 24, 1930 in Clay County, the son of Raymond Arthur and Ruth Emmert Siegelin. He was born and raised on the family farm and he farmed that ground until he moved into Brazil at the age of 75.

He graduated from Brazil High School in 1948. His father died when Wayne was a young boy, so he took on the responsibilities of helping his family at an early age. They had livestock and were grain farmers.

On May 29, 1965, Wayne was united in marriage to Sandra Martin Siegelin.

Later in life, he worked for IBM in Greencastle in quality control until his retirement in 1987. He has been a member of the Masonic Lodge Knightsville, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, the Brazil Elks Lodge and the informal meeting of the local Hardee's Group.

Wayne enjoyed boating and water skiing in years past. He also took up bowling and loved playing golf, especially at Forest Park after moving into Brazil.

A true talent that Wayne developed over the years has been woodworking. He took pride in making items for family and friends. Using oak hardwood was his favorite wood to work with.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Ruth Siegelin; an infant brother, Carl Arthur Siegelin; brother Robert D. Siegelin; one sister, Joann Barrett and her husband Glen Barrett; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Martena Martin; brother-in-law, Hal Switz.

Wayne is survived by his devoted wife Sandie Siegelin; one daughter, Marsha Nicoson and husband Robert and their children, Darren (Lisa) Barnhart, Damon (Stacey) Barnhart, Jay (Kim) Nicoson and Jeff (Nicole Spires) Nicoson; sons Mark and wife Penny Siegelin and their children, Jeremy (Stepheny) Siegelin and Jonathan (Jessica) Siegelin, and Ron Stinson (Carla) and their children Ashley (Michael) Glahn and Whitney (Andrew) Justice, and Craig Siegelin and wife Paula and their children, Dashiell Siegelin and Esme Siegelin; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew; one sister-in-law, Marcia Switz, and one brother-in-law, Toby Martin (Jane).
