Indiana State Police

An 81-year-old Coatesville man was transported to an area hospital Tuesday after being struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Groveland BP.

Emergency agencies were called to the convenience store on East U.S. 36 at 7:40 a.m.

The preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Senior Trooper John Myers reported that 19-year-old Levi T. Purdue of Greencastle was backing a 2002 Chevrolet pickup out of a parking spot when he struck John C. Swisher, who was walking across the lot.

Swisher was transported to Hendricks Regional Health for treatment of lacerations and abrasions.

Assisting agencies included Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Putnam County Operation Life and Roachdale Fire/Rescue.

County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• At 10:08 p.m. Jagdish Singh, 24, Bakersfield, Calif., was lodged at the jail for driving with a BAC of .15 or more.

• At 3:33 p.m. Dylan Alexander Romandine, 21, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 12:47 p.m. Tyler Patrick Kuras, 26, Russellville, was booked in on an out-of-county warrant.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to three recent property-damage accidents.

• At 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Kayla L. Pace, 16, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 725 East ina 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.

Pace told Deputy Jacob Harrington her passenger side tire went off the roadway. The car then went down an embankment on the northeast side of the intersection with County Road 600 North.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, Clay D. Dvorak, 19, Morocco, was westbound on State Road 240 near the Putnam County Humane Shelter in a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Deputy Harrington reported that Dvorak lost control and crossed into the opposite lane, then back into his own lane before running off the north side of the road. Harrington said the vehicle appeared to have rolled before coming to rest in a ditch.

Harrington reported that road markings indicated Dvorak may have been speeding.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Reserve Deputy Rick Lambert assisted at the scene.

• At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, Patricia M. Miner, 82, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 725 East just north of County Road 525 North in a 2013 Toyota RAV4.

Miner told Deputy Harrington she fell asleep and her vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane before leaving the road and hitting a tree.

Miner was transported to Hendricks Regional Health by Operation Life.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Deputy Scott Ducker assisted at the scene.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to six dispatches.

• At 7:04 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to reports of a structure fire at 5158 Van Bibber Lake. However, GFD was disregarded en route, returning to station at 7:10 p.m.

• At 12:13 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to reports of arcing electrical equipment in the area of 1018 Indianapolis Rd. Upon arrival, however, no arcing was found. GFD secured the breaker to the area in question before returning to station at 12:44 a.m.

• At 1:21 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to reports of a motor-vehicle accident (without injury) on U.S. 231 just north of the viaduct on Greencastle’s north side. An automobile had struck a telephone pole, sending telephone lines into the roadway. GFD secured the area and removed the lines and other debris from the roadway before returning to station at 1:46 a.m.

• At 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 224 S. Indiana St. Upon arrival, GFD observed a haze in the hallway on the second floor of the building. However, the haze was determined to have emitted from a disconnected dryer vent coming from the building’s laundry room. GFD reattached the vent before returning to station at 2:52 a.m.

• At 12:56 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 300 E. Seminary St. The alarm was determined to have been activated unnecessarily at a pull station that a resident reportedly bumped into. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 1:18 p.m.

• At 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 101 E. Hanna St. The alarm was determined to have been activated unnecessarily as the alarm systems in the building were currently under maintenance. GFD then returned to station at 4:42 p.m.
