Wabash Valley YMCAs raise over $110,000

TERRE HAUTE -- The YMCAs of the Wabash Valley have completed another successful Annual Campaign, raising more than $110,000.

The association, which consists of Clay County YMCA of Brazil, Vigo County YMCA of Terre Haute and Putnam County Child Care in both Greencastle and Bainbridge, makes it a goal each year to raise as many funds as possible for the betterment of the community.

“At the YMCAs of the Wabash Valley, the goal is that no one gets turned away from YMCA programs due to limited income,” Wabash Valley YMCA CEO Deb Ringo said. “The Annual Campaign funding provides financial assistance for individuals who could not otherwise access valuable YMCA programs. We are so humbled by the response we have once again seen from our community supporters. Thank you for your donations -- the YMCAs wouldn’t be possible without you.”

The Annual Campaign allows community youth to participate in Spring Break Camp and Summer Camp, as well as a variety of youth programs which the two branches offer. It also helps families and seniors in the community to become members of the “Y.”

For the 2017 campaign, the YMCA Board raised more than it had in previous years, donating more than $9,500, itself. The funds raised during the campaign help the “Y” provide valuable community services such at STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), swim lessons, childcare and more. The “Y” Summer Camp program helps prevent summer learning loss and enhances physical activity and socialization while encouraging healthy choices. The “Ys” educate Wabash Valley youth in a unique way and better prepare them for the real world.

Although the Annual Campaign has come to an end, the YMCAs of the Wabash Valley will continue to accept donations throughout the remainder of the year.

An all-new fundraiser, The Red Gala, will take place on Sept. 1 at The Red Barn at Sycamore Farm. The “Y” has partnered with The Dance Studio and WTHI-99 for this event to provide the community with an evening of elegance, featuring dance performances by Brandon and Mallory Halleck and the YMCA Ballerinas, a silent auction with donations by many supporters of the community, and a gourmet dining experience prepared by The Butler’s Pantry.

Funds raised from The Red Gala will go toward the “Y’s” Annual Campaign.
