The Area 30 Career Center’s recent inaugural Computer Science Summer Camp saw 16 students between 13 and 17 years old from each of the five Putnam County high schools.

Students learned about the history of computing, transistors, graphical programming and creating videogames.

Students finished the camp by using the skills they learned throughout the week to create an LED matrix marquee sign controlled by a small computer called Raspberry Pi. The students performed electrical wiring, created custom graphics and programmed Raspberry Pi to display their designs.

Two students each from Cloverdale and Eminence high schools, three from South Putnam and four each from Greencastle and North Putnam high schools attended.

The camp was made possible by a grant from the Indiana Department of Education.
