TERRE HAUTE -- For the second consecutive year, Vigo County Veterans Treatment Court was awarded the Indiana Office of Court Services (IOCS) Veterans Court grant.

This year’s grant was more than three times the amount received last year, and the funding will ensure adequate staffing and training and that veteran’s needs are provided for as they progress through the program.

Vigo County Veterans Treatment Court, presided over by Judge John T. Roach, is an collaborative, non-adversarial program for veterans who are in need of either mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment or both that promotes public safety to reduce re-arrest rates and help veterans become productive citizens again.

Veterans are guided through a phased program that connects them with treatment; educational and vocational programs; housing and other services. The program brings together numerous agencies: the court, Veterans’ Affairs, the public defender’s office, the prosecutor’s office, the probation department, community corrections, Hamilton Center and many other community partners.

On Feb. 17, Vigo County Veterans Court was awarded full certification by the IOCS. It is the 23rd such court in the state. With full certification and increased funding, the Court will be able to continue to care for the veterans of the Wabash Valley and to honor their sacrifice for our country.
