The Putnam County Museum has so many great things to offer the community. But did you know that your club or organization could be meeting at the museum? Currently the Putnam County Museum has five organizations that meet at the museum on a regular basis. From exercise groups to sewing groups, from kid’s crafts to weavers groups, the museum has a wide range of events and something for everyone.

Every Monday and Friday at 9:15 a.m. Tawni Harris teaches a Zumba class at the Putnam County Museum. The beat of the music sounds throughout the building first thing in the morning, starting and ending the week off on just the right foot, the atmosphere is absolutely electric. Everyone can come and shake it at this open to the public Zumba with Tawni for $2 per class. If there are any questions, contact the museum at 653-8419.

On the second and fourth Monday of the month at 10:15 a.m. the quilting club One Stitch at a Time meets at the museum to discuss new ideas as well as lessons for quilters with experience that ranges from beginner to advanced. The club helps its members stitch together the memories that only a quilt can hold together. This club is open to the public. The One Stitch at a Time quilt club does have a pitch-in style lunch. If you have any question regarding the quilt club, contact Bonnie Bryan at 765-739-6101.

The museum has the pleasure of hosting the Sew Many Stitches quilt club at 6 p.m. every second and fourth Thursday evenings. Sew Many Stitches welcomes all quilters, from the pro-quilter to the beginner. They are always willing to help those learning the craft of quilting. They have weekly lessons and love hearing suggestions on what to do next. This club is open to the public. If there are any questions regarding the Sew Many Stitches quilt club, persons may contact club President Sue Stattner at 765-795-4986.

The second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. is host to Spinners and Weavers’ a club of fiber artists. The group started about 25 years ago it is an educational group that varies in a wide range of several arts from spinning raw wool to crocheting a sweater. Show and tell of your work is encouraged. Exploration of new techniques is also something the group strongly encourages. At their June and Christmas meetings there is a pitch-in style meal. This club is open to the public. If you have any questions you may inquire with Sara Whittlocke at 653-9471 or Joy Evans at 653-2106.

For the children, the museum offers Kid’s Club. This event takes place on the third Saturday of every month except for July while the Putnam County Fair is in full swing. Kid’s Club consists of an educational topic such as Stargazing, where a craft to make your own solar system was a part of the festivities. It has also had such themes as Expressing Gratitude, where the children worked with local artist and art teacher, Dressa Frank, to make beautiful artwork on stones. This is a free event open to the public and made possible by generous members and donors. Donations are welcome and much appreciated.
