PUTNAMVILLE – Megan Cavaness has been tantalizingly close to capturing her first bomber A-main victory the last couple of years. She’d ticked off the accomplishment of heat race victories and even added a win in the second bomber feature on a given evening. On Saturday night however, the Greencastle native added to her career accomplishments by topping 19 other drivers to score the Bomber Mid-season Championship feature win.

Cavaness outdueled Josh Foxworthy early on, and then drove away from Josh Litton and David Bumgardner over the last five laps of the 20-lap main event.

Both Foxworthy and Cavaness started on the front row ahead of Bumgardner and David Wallen. Once the green flag dropped it was Foxworthy and Cavaness that duked it out side-by-side through the opening five circuits. Wallen settled in behind the front runners with Litton running fourth ahead of Bumgardner and Tom Cox followed by Cody Wright. Cavaness darted into the lead on that fifth lap and would not look back.

Cavaness remained out front, hitting each of her marks and maintaining her successful racing line after a mid-race caution. Foxworthy would fade late and eventually pull off the track with a couple laps remaining. Behind Cavaness, Litton got past Bumgardner over the last few laps to pick up second-place as David Wallen placed fourth ahead of Jordan Almanza, who raced from the back of the pack to take fifth.

Kenny Carmichael Sr. captured the win in the UMP Super Stock feature last week and came back this week to edge out Matt Tiller to claim the UMP Modified feature win at Lincoln Park Speedway.

Damon Harrell started on the front row, but his evening ended early after he rolled his No. 74 machine after slipping off the top of turn three and getting upside down. Harrell walked away from the accident.

The early action was between Carmichael Sr., Paul Bumgardner and Josh Boller as the three battled for the top spot. Boller got loose heading into turn three and spun, collecting both Dan Lewellen and Jeff Deckard on lap 10. Bumgardner’s night also came to an end with a broken front end.

With the field re-set, Carmichael maintained his lead on the restart as Tiller remained second ahead of Kenny Carmichael Sr. and RJ Pruitt. Tiller dove underneath Carmichael Jr., but was unable to make the pass stick. Carmichael Jr. drove back into the lead with five laps remaining and stayed on top the rest of the way. Tiller held down second ahead of Carmichael Sr., Tyler Loughmiller and Scott Ricketts.

In the UMP Super Stock A-main, Steve Peeden picked up his fourth victory of the season while remaining on top of the UMP National Point standings.

Peeden and Carmichael Jr. started on the front row, but it was Peeden that got the early jump ahead of Cullen Goodman and Doug McCullough. Peeden started to pull away from the competition as Goodman held a solid lead over McCullough as Larry Raines moved into fourth.

A restart with five laps remaining gave the field one last shot at Peeden, but the Paragon native stayed on the gas and pulled away to the win over McCullough, Wes McClara, Raines and Kenny Fields.

Saturday evening will feature a regular slate that includes sprint cars, UMP Modifieds and super stocks as well as bombers.
