New restaurant announces dinners for local charities

As Bridges Craft Pizza and Wine Bar prepares for its late August opening, community members will have advance opportunities to experience its cuisine while also supporting Beyond Homeless Inc. and Friends of the Park.

Bridges will serve dinner on Aug. 5 and 12 at Myers’ 5 East Event & Catering Co. at 5 East Franklin Street.

All proceeds from the $40 per person dinner and wine tickets will benefit Beyond Homeless on Aug. 5 and Friends of the Park on Aug. 12. A limited number of reservations are now available by emailing info@bridgeswinebar.com

The latest restaurant scheduled to open in downtown Greencastle, Bridges will feature an Italian wood-burning pizza oven, fine wine and a rooftop patio. The restaurant will be operated by general manager Damion Wallace and Chef Sal Fernandez.

“We are eager to open our doors and provide a distinctive experience for community members and guests in late August,” Wallace said. “In the meantime, these special events give us a chance to continue to get to know the community and lend a hand in supporting a couple of very important causes.”

As the beneficiary of the Aug. 5 event, Beyond Homeless will apply all dinner proceeds to its mission of uplifting women and children out of poverty in Putnam County. More than a shelter, BHI helps change the lives of its residents by partnering to develop and pursue goals for their long-term employment and housing.

As the recipient of ticket sales on Aug. 12, Friends of the Park will direct all of the evening’s revenue to promote awareness, health and recreation and enjoyment of Greencastle parks for all citizens of Putnam County. The Friends of the Park raised funds for the castle playground in Robe-Ann Park and continues to complete a variety of park projects to benefit the community.

Bridges and its extensively renovated building at 19 N. Indiana St. are owned by DePauw University alumni Joyce and Judson Green. A gift by the Greens also made possible the adjoining Music on the Square, which continues to offer youth music lessons and other cultural and educational programs.

  • $40 per person? I sure hope you have enough patrons to keep your restaurant open. I guess you are only catering to the elite.

  • $40 per person? I hope you have enough patrons to keep your restaurant open. Councilman Murray stated in an article that money was not an issue for him, therefore, he could possibly dine in your fine pizza restaurant regularly.

  • That is a ridiculous statement. I'm sure that price is due to the fact that it is a charity event. Have you ever been to a charity event?

  • Im sure many people have been to a charity however that doesnt mean the price tag for pizza and "fine wine" is still worth it. I wonder how many people give to the shelter on their own and not just during charity events.
