Go on a journey
There’s a new school in town.
Now enrolling just in time for the back-to-school ruckus, Journey is opening its doors to students in preschool through 12th grade.
The non-denominational private school “partners with families through life educational journeys with affordable tuition, personalized instruction, as well as a challenging curriculum with Bible-based teaching for our students to grow in the Word of God.”
With the closure of the Alpha and Omega Christian Academy, Journey is now the only private Christian school in Putnam County that offers preschool through high school.
“We all have children,” Moore said, “that we have either homeschooled or have been in Christian school throughout their educations. And we all just have a passion for teaching and having a loving environment. We want average families to have this as an option.”
The preschool class is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for potty trained students 4 years old by Aug. 1. Tuition is $1,800 plus book fees (which vary and are due at enrollment), but tuition can be paid in 10 monthly installments starting Aug. 1 with one payment at a 10 percent discount.
For kindergarten through 8th grade, classes are five days a week from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students five years old by Aug. 1. Tuition is $2,000, with the same stipulations as preschool.
High school tuition is $1,600, with the same stipulations.
Journey can support about 50 students with a student-teacher ratio of 15:1.
Classes are taught by Marta Clark, Kasey Wyeth, Autumn Shake and Angela Moore, who are from Putnam County but taught for five years at the Elam school in Hendricks County. They are certified to teach the Abeka curriculum through 8th grade and Connections Academy for high school.
“We want to be for all families,” Shake said. “Sometimes it helps for kids who need more of a challenge. Classrooms are small, so we’re able to work with them. We can adjust to the individual student. We’ve had students who come in who are slightly behind, maybe because of illnesses, and because we can give them some individual attention, we can get them up to where they need to be. We want to work with parents; we want parents to be involved.”
Moore added, “We like to have very open communication."
The school will host an open house Aug. 4 from 4-7 p.m. in the First Christian Church at 110 S. Indiana St. in Greencastle.
Register by visiting the website or emailing journeygreencastle@gmail.com. The first student day is Aug. 14.
