County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 3:12 p.m. Jessica Ashlee Keck, 34, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 12:25 a.m. Demion Leonard Wallace, 47, Carmel, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

Tuesday

• At 4:45 p.m. Derrick Vaughn Trezlemont Mitchell, 22, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for failure to appear.

• At 1:11 p.m. Steve Todd Spaulding, 48, Indianapolis, was arrested for battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

• At noon, James Eric Grimsley, 31, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for failure to appear.

• At 11:05 a.m. Jarod Michael Brooks, 18, Coatesville, was charged with possession of paraphernalia.

City Police

A 29-year-old Greencastle man is facing theft charges after his arrest Tuesday night at the Greencastle Walmart store.

Dustin Michael Carter was arrested by Officer Brad Hiatt and lodged in the Putnam County Jail after reportedly failing to scan two items at the Walmart U-scan aisle.

Carter allegedly did not scan but took possession of two boxed sets of Magic: The Gathering cards, listed as a total value of $60.96.

GPD officers reported another arrest Thursday morning on the city’s East Side.

• At 2:35 a.m., Zachary Eaglin, 29, Gosport, was arrested by Officer Elsiana Crosby at Avenue B and Warren Drive.

Eaglin was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of invasion of privacy.

Meanwhile, one recent summons was also issued by city officers.

Nicholas Simonetti, 23, Indianapolis, was stopped at Hanna and South Indiana streets by Sgt. Eric Vaughan and found to be in possession of marijuana, police said.

Simonetti was issued a summons into court on the charge and was released from the scene.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, Eunice M. Vincent, 70, Poand, was eastbound on U.S. 40 at County Road 510 East in a 1997 Toyota Corolla.

Vincent told Lt. Donnie Pettit she reached down to get her coffee and took her eyes off the road. She hen lost control and veered off the south side of the road.

The car re-entered the road and overcorrected, leaving the south side a secone time and hitting a power pole and mailbox before damaging a yard and hitting a block wall.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Capt. Tom Helmer assisted at the scene.

• At 5:53 p.m. on Tuesday, Brittney N. Penley, 30, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 325 West about 3,000 feet south of County Road 450 South in a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Avery L. Dotson, 23, Reelsville, was eastbound on County Road 225 South in a 2000 Buick Century.

Dotson told Capt. Tom Helmer he rounded a curve and the rear-end broke loose and he lost control. The car went up an embankment and rolled onto its top.

Helmer said yaw marks indicated the vehicle was sliding sideways before leaving the road. The deputy added that the right rear tire was a donut, not suitable for travel on gravel roads at speed.

Dotson and his passenger, 19-year-old Haylee M. Parrish, Greencastle, were able to exit the vehicle.

Both were transported to Putnam County Hospital with minor abrasions and complaints of pain.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Deputy Scott Ducker assisted at the scene.

• At 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Lesa J. Meranda, 54, Indianapolis, was parking her 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer at Lieber State Park in the camping area.

Meranda told Lt. Donnie Pettit she pulled up over a curb, causing damage to the front bumper.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to two dispatches and three medical runs.

• At 4:38 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 702 S. College Ave. Upon investigation, GFD determined the system was showing a flow alarm but no problems were found after checking the risers and sprinkler system. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 4:46 p.m.

• At 4:38 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 609 S. Locust St. Again, GFD determined the system was showing a flow alarm but no problems were found after checking the risers and sprinkler system. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 4:55 p.m.
