State Sen. Rodric Bray

District 37 State Sen. Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) has been appointed to serve as chairman of the Interim Study Committee on Courts and the Judiciary, Joint Committee on Judiciary and Public Policy and Courts and Judiciary Probate Interim Study Subcommittee during the summer and fall months to help prepare for the 2018 session of the General Assembly.

Appointed by Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne), Bray will also serve on the following study committee, board and councils:

-- Interim Study Committee on Corrections and Criminal Code.

-- Board of Trustees of the Criminal Justice Institute.

-- Legislative Council.

-- Legislative Council Audit and Financial Reporting Subcommittee.

-- Military Base Planning Council.

“I am looking forward to leading these interim study committees in preparation for the 2018 legislative session,” Bray said. “Interim committees are a crucial part of the legislative process so we can take an in-depth look at the issues facing our state. The Courts and Judiciary Committee will be looking at possible changes to our civil forfeiture laws as well as Adult Protective Services.”

When Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session, lawmakers serve on interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

Study committee topics are assigned by the bipartisan Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.

District 37 encompasses the southern portion of Putnam County (south of the center of Washington Street in Greencastle), all of Morgan County as well as portions of Owen and Johnson counties.
