John A. Sanders, 73, of Greensburg, Pa., died Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born April 2, 1944 in Greencastle, Ind., a son of the late Charles and Jean (Butler) Sanders.

Prior to his retirement in 2006 he had been the director of the Westmoreland County Tax Assessment Office.

He was an Air Force veteran and a 1962 graduate of State High School in Terre Haute.

He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 981, South Greensburg, a self-taught golfer and an avid home improvement "do-it-yourselfer."

John was a lover of classic cars, had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for being a prankster.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Sanders; and two brothers, Charles "Sandy" and James Sanders.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Stacey (Polinsky) Sanders; two sons, Jonathan Sanders of Clinton Township and Dylan Sanders of United; his daughter, Sarah Sanders of Millvale; two sisters, Clarinda Taylor of Westfield, and Martha Sanders of Pasadena, Calif.; his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Judy Polinsky; his brother-in-law, Brian (Robin) Polinsky; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Honoring John's wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 in the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, 516 Stanton St., Greensburg, with The Rev. Robert A. Free officiating.
