Friday, August 4, 2017

Putnam County’s four high school football teams will conclude their first week of practice with intrasquad scrimmages and/or other special activities today.

Here is the schedule:

• Greencastle will have its annual Purple-Gray game starting at 10 a.m.

Admission is a box of energy/granola bars.

• Cloverdale will have a youth league scrimmage against Owen Valley, with the rookies playing at 9 a.m., the minors at 10 a.m. and the majors at 11 a.m. Youth teams will then scrimmage against the high school varsity at noon.

A full concession stand will be available, including food from a grill provided by Endeavor Communications.

• North Putnam will start its evening activities with a 3rd/4th grade scrimmage at 5 p.m., followed by the 5th/6th graders at 5:10, the middle school teams at 5:20 and the varsity team scrimmaging from 5:30-7.

The 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade teams will have 10 more minutes of scrimmaging before the dinner and block party start at 7:30.

Dinner including a sandwich, chips, green beans, dessert and water will be available for $10 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under.

Fans will be able to meet players and coaches, as well as fellow fans, and can also pick up a season schedule, order a yard sign and visit the vendor booths and the NP photo booth.

The NP cheerleaders will also be offering face painting, and a cornhole tournament will take place.

• South Putnam will start its activities at 5 p.m. with a pitch-in dinner, followed by the annual Blue/White Scrimmage at 6:30 p.m.

Youth league and middle school teams will all participate.

The youth league will also be sponsoring a silent auction to raise money for its program.

“It’s a huge night for program,” Eagle coach Nathan Aker said. “The highlight of the night is the youth league kids facing the varsity kids in a scrimmage.

“The kids all interact really well,” he added. “It’s a really fun night for everyone.”
