• At 4:30 p.m. Benjamin O’Hair, 32, Greencastle, was southbound on Fawnview Lane, approaching Indianapolis Road in a 2006 GMC Sierra, when he said he looked down at his phone for instructions on his next business call, Officer Nick Eastham reported, and the vehicle left the roadway at the northeast corner of the intersection in front of Auto Zone.

The truck went over the curb, colliding with a stoplight control box which was pushed off its concrete base by the impact.

Two other minor accidents were investigated recently by GPD officers.

• At 2:17 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on North Jackson Street near Depot Street as Lynda Shute, 61 Danville, was stopped in northbound traffic, waiting to turn left onto Depot in a 2016 Toyota Sienna.

John Dittmer, 77, Fillmore, was also northbound, driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla when he reportedly looked away briefly at a sign and did not see that Shute had stopped to turn, Officer Eastham reported.

The Dittmer car struck the Shute truck, resulting in a estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage.

• At 9:45 a.m. Monday, the stoplight at Indianapolis Road and State Road 240 was the scene of a two-vehicle accident.

Seth Hamilton, 16, Greencastle, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2000 GMC Sierra, when he reportedly did not notice a 2017 Ford F-150 truck, driven by Kaylee Hughes, 18, Greencastle, had stopped for the stoplight and a collision occurred.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Matthew J. Perdue, 33, Brazil, was northbound on County Road 550 West in a 2015 Chevrolet pickup registered to USIC Location Services. Marcus D. Doll, 28, Reelsville, was southbound in a 2002 garbage truck registered to Jack’s Trash Service.

Deputy Jacob Harrington said markings on the road indicated that Perdue was left of center on a curve in the road and hit the rear driver’s side of the trash truck.

Damage was minimal, estimated at less than $1,000.

• At 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Robert E. Peed, 60, Coatesville, was southbound on County Road 850 East stopped at a stopsign, preparing to turn east on County Road 550 North in a 2013 Chrysler 200. Derek K. Steele, 27, Coatesville, was westbound on 550 North, approaching the intersection in a 1999 GMC Jimmy.

Peed attempted to make the left turn, traveling into the path of Steele’s vehicle.

Steele told Deputy Harrington he tried to avoid the collision but hit the driver’s side of Peed’s car. Steele’s SUV then left the road and hit a utility pole.

Steel was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
