A one-car accident resulted in an estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage Thursday night, Greencastle City Police reported.

• At 8:20 p.m., Kori Bray, 21, Greencastle, was westbound on East Washington Street, just west of Percy Julian Drive, when her 2009 Mini Cooper went off the north side of the road, striking a mailbox and concrete driveway framing at the residence of Carol Tague.

Bray told Officer Brad Hiatt that she was distracted by an object in her car and it all happened so fast she couldn’t remember what the distraction was.

Two drivers were cited Thursday night by city officers.

• At 10:48 p.m., Timothy Moore, 31, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Hiatt on East Washington Street.

Moore received a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility and having a false or fictitious registration plate.

• At 10:22 p.m., Okairy Puente, 26, Lafayette, was cited on North Jackson Street by Officer Hiatt.

Puente was issued a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense and operating a vehicle without financial responsibility.

Sheriff’s Department

• At 12:05 a.m. on Friday, Deputy Jeffery Freeman was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on County Road 850 North about 1,000 feet west of County Road 400 West.

Freeman found an inverted 2003 Ford Explorer registered to Nicole J. Justak of Hobart. The deputy reported the vehicle had been westbound when it left the road and hit a tree, overturning.

The vehicle was discovered with its headlights still on and no driver around. Freeman made contact with the mother of Corey G. Justak, 33, Clay City, who confirmed that he drives the vehicle in question, so it is believed he was the driver.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• A Cloverdale youth was injured Thursday night when he attempted to flee from a deputy attempting to make a traffic stop.

Deputy Freeman reported that at 10:52 p.m. a 2003 Kia Rio was westbound on County Road 1000 South when the officer observed the driver commit a traffic violation. When Freeman attempted to make the stop, the driver fled.

The car turned northbound onto Stardust Way, traveling “all over the roadway” before colliding with a row of buses and striking an address marker before finally hitting a tree head-on. The vehicle turned 180 degrees upon hitting the tree and came to rest against another tree.

The driver, later identified as 17-year-old Terry W. Morris II, then fled on foot before officers located him several minutes later in a nearby pond.

Freeman reported that Morris sustained a broken leg and several cuts on his face. Operation Life transported him to Putnam County Hospital.

The vehicle, which was registered to Barry W. Nichols of Cloverdale, was towed from the scene. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

Freeman was assisted by Sgt. Kyle Gibbons and Deputy Anthony Brown.

• At 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Cory R. O’Neal, 19, Greencastle, was stopped southeast-bound on County Road 200 South at U.S. 40 in a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. Amanda N. Dickinson, 35, Brazil, was stopped behind O’Neal’s car in a 2005 Buick Le Sabre.

Dickinson told Capt. Tom Helmer she thought O’Neal had accelerated through the intersection and she was looking east as she moved forward. Instead, O’Neal stopped again and Dickinson rear-ended his car.

Helmer reported that Dickinson was supposed to notify the sheriff’s department of her insurance information later on Wednesday, but she had not done so as of Thursday afternoon.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Deputy Scott Ducker assisted at the scene.
