Music men get attention Sunday from Brazil Band

BRAZIL -- On Sunday, Aug. 13, the Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber will present the free concert, The Music Men, at 8 p.m. in Forest Park.

Among the music men are Meredith Willson, who at the age of 16 became piccolo soloist in the band of John Philip Sousa. Willson, with a long career in music, is best known for “The Music Man” with “76 Trombones.”

Elvis Presley is still popular worldwide and the BCB will salute “The King” with a medley of his hit parade titled “All Shook Up.”

Frank Loesser, who wrote many scores for Broadway, will be recognized through “Guys and Dolls.”

Indiana’s March King Fred Jewell, a former member of the BCB, wrote “Pageant of Progress” for the circus and the serenade “A Passing Fancy.”

Also for the circus is “The Circus Bee” by Henry Fillmore.

Two Sousa marches from the World War I era, “Jack Tar” and “The Invincible Eagle” are on the playlist.

The free concert is performed rain or shine in the Forest Park bandshell at Brazil.
