The Accelerated Associate Degree Program (ASAP) at Ivy Tech Community College, Greencastle, was recently awarded $12,800 by 100 Plus Men Who Care of Putnam County.

The funds will support the program’s goals of allowing students right out of high school to earn an associate degree in just 11 months with little to no student debt.

Ivy Tech Community College launched ASAP on the Greencastle Campus in June 2016. This June a second cohort of 20 students, an increase of 11 students from 2016, started their journey to earn a two-year associates degree in just 11 months with students representing all four Putnam County school corporations and high schools adjacent to Putnam County.

Upon completion of the ASAP program, students can transfer to their choice of a variety of four-year colleges and universities.

At the time of the check presentation, Amanda Ostoich, ASAP program coordinator, shared, “ASAP creates a unique teaching environment with wraparound support from mentors and peers that has proven to be successful. We thank the Putnam County Chapter of 100 Men Who Care for their generosity, which will enrich the ASAP curriculum and experience.”

Having awarded more than $120,000 to 10 different local non-profits since its founding, 100 Plus Men will meet at the Inn at DePauw at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 for the third time in 2017.

Scott Davis, organizer of the Putnam County Chapter, encourages all members to attend.

“One of the lessons I’ve learned since this group of men has come together,” Davis said, “is there are still many non-profit organizations that could benefit from a $12,000 plus contribution; a second lesson, we have an remarkable group of 128 guys who care about our county. I encourage all Putnam County 501c3 nonprofits to ask one of our guys to submit their names and tell their story.”

The organization continues to welcomes men from all walks of life and experiences.

“We continue to add new men who don’t have time in their busy life to volunteer, but want to make a significant impact for those with needs,” Todd Lewis, a member of the committee from Cloverdale said. “The county-wide participation has been amazing. Guys are having fun. They love that their $100 check adds up to a $12,000 plus donation to a deserving local charity.”

The Putnam County chapter is one several 100+ Men Who Care chapters nationally. Following the national model, 100+Men meets four times a year to award a big check to a Putnam County 501c3 charity. In the two years since its founding in 2015, the local chapter obtained more than $120,000 for local charities and created a $45,000 Community Grants Endowment at the Putnam County Foundation.
