Correctional officer arrested for trafficking at Putnamville
PUTNAMVILLE — A correctional officer at Putnamville Correctional Facility was arrested on Sunday after admitting to bringing contraband into the prison.
Officer Justin Ray Johnson, 25, Rosedall, was arrested on Sunday for Level 5 felony trafficking with an inmate.
The Office of Investigation and Intelligence Lead Investigator Fernell Keith McDonald and Investigator Rob Evans at PCF recently received information which sparked an investigation into Johnson.
During questioning, Johnson admitted to trafficking illegal narcotics into the facility on several occasions for multiple offenders. He also had cash and a loaded handgun in his vehicle on facility grounds.
“It is sad to see our own staff involved in trafficking, but they are not above the law,” PCF Warden Brian Smith said. “Any trafficker will be held accountable, and will be prosecuted to ensure the safety and security of our facility, as well as the department.”
Johnson was transported to the Putnam County Jail and booked in at 10:29 p.m.
He had a valid permit for the handgun and the weapon was transported to the jail and given to Putnam County Jail staff.
