Noah Emmerich and Jared Seidler are seniors at South Putnam, and play doubles together on the Eagles’ tennis team.

Banner Graphic: How long have you been playing tennis, and what do you like best about it?

Noah Emmerich: “I’ve been playing since seventh grade, and I have been on the school team since the freshman year. I like the amount of teamwork that goes into it; it’s not all teamwork, but there is a lot. I like the balance between relying on your own skill and that of the team.”

Jared Seidler: “I started playing last year. It’s about teamwork, and it’s fun.”

BG: Do you play any other sports?

NE: “I played golf my freshman year, but that’s it.”

JS: “Swimming is my main sport, and everything I do is to get me ready for that. But I like tennis and it helps keep me in shape. I have played most of the sports here. This year I’m going to focus on tennis and swimming, and then do either track or golf in the spring. It might be golf, because I have some shin splint issues.”

BG: What kinds of things do you do not school or sports-related?

NE: “I like to hang out with my friends and play video games. I like to play Overwatch [a first-person shooter] game.”

JS: “I like to hang out with my friends, and I like hunting and fishing. I like to hunt deer and turkeys with a bow. That’s my preference. It’s more fun. It can be hard, but it takes a lot of practice to be good with your bow. It’s an adrenaline rush.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

NE: “No. We used to have some cats, but they weren’t mine.”

JS: “Two dogs and a cat. I have a Labrador retriever and a mixed dog. Not sure what kind of a cat we have.”

BG: What is your greatest fear?

NE: “Drowning or being eaten/attacked by an animal.”

JS: “Being burned alive. Definitely that would be the worst.”

BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

NE: “Skydiving. From what I have heard, the rush you get from it is so exciting. Even though there is that big risk, I would like to feel that sense of excitement.”

JS: “Scuba diving would be cool. I like swimming, and I feel like being around fish and being up close with them would be cool.”

BG: What are your favorite and least favorite foods?

NE: “Cereal would have to be my favorite, because I eat it a lot. I really like it. I like to eat Crave and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My least favorite would be asparagus.”

JS: “Favorite is pizza, least favorite is sushi. I’m not a sushi person.”

BG: How do you and your doubles partner get along?

NE: “I’ve known him since seventh grade, and we played tennis together last year for the first time. This is the first year we’re playing doubles together. It’s working out pretty well, and we communicate well on the court.”

JS: “He’s fun to play with. We both make mistakes sometimes, but in the end it works out. He’s the main leader on our team, since he’s played the longest, but we both try to keep everybody motivated.”
