Greencastle (2-1, 0-1) at South Putnam (1-2, 0-1)

Media coverage: WREB-FM 94.3 will broadcast the game.

The coaches: Mike Meyer is in his eighth year at Greencastle with a career record of 31-44. Nathan Aker is in his fourth year at South Putnam with a career record of 19-17.

The history: Greencastle won 28-0 on its home field last year. The teams have evenly split the last 30 meetings.

So far: Greencastle defeated Crawfordsville 10-0, defeated Cloverdale 21-13 and lost 14-0 to West Vigo. South Putnam defeated Cloverdale 20-6, lost 21-14 to Brown County and lost 48-21 to North Putnam.

Opponents’ records: Greencastle 3-6, South Putnam 4-5.

Points per game: Offensive: Greencastle 10.3, South Putnam 18.2. Defensive: Greencastle 9.0 (30th best in state, ninth best in Class 3A), South Putnam 25.0

WIC impact: Both teams lost their conference opener last week, and the winner will be in at least fifth place.

Coach Meyer on his team: “Working on improving consistency on offense and continue to play aggressive defense for 4 quarters.

Coach Meyer on the Eagles: “South Putnam is a dangerous team with a core of talented players. We must be ready.

Coach Aker on the Tiger Cubs: “Coach Meyer has a physical football team that has a balanced offensive attack. They have multiple offensive weapons that have stood out on film as well. They are very physical defensively and like to bring pressure early and often. We must bring our physicality to this county rival game. We’re getting healthier by the day which is great for us. Our young guys are gaining valuable experience that will pay off big in the end.”

Coach Aker on his team: “We must make take advantage of opportunities that come our way. We must be sound tacklers this week. Offensively, we must move the chains and score in the red zone. We must limit negative plays. Also, we would like to wish our Eagle alumni the best of luck as they start their college football seasons. Johnathan Thibodeau, Wabash; Grady McHugh, Wooster; Brandon Gierke, DePauw; Lucas Lorian and Zane Yon, Manchester; and Lane Hacker, Wilmington.”

No. 15 Sullivan (2-1, 1-0) at North Putnam (1-2, 1-0)

Media coverage: WGRE-FM 91.5 will broadcast the game.

Special events: Homecoming.

The coaches: Blaine Powell is in his first year at Sullivan, while Sam Carnes is in his first year at North Putnam.

The history: Sullivan won 33-19 on its home field last year and has won two straight games.

So far: Sullivan defeated North Knox 45-14, lost 30-28 to Class 2A No. 7 Linton-Stockton and defeated Northview 29-28 on a 2-point conversion in the last minute of the game. North Putnam lost 34-10 to Indian Creek, lost 49-27 to Southmont and defeated South Putnam 48-21.

Opponents’ records: Sullivan 4-5, North Putnam 5-4.

Points per game: Offensive — Sullivan 34.0, North Putnam 28.3. Defensive — Sullivan 24.0, North Putnam 34.7.

WIC impact: Both teams are undefeated in league play, and the winner will be in first or tied for first.

Coach Carnes on his team: “Like every week have to own the trenches. Make sure we stay focused and locked in. We also have to slow down their passing attack.

Coach Carnes on the Arrows: “Sullivan has a lot of speed and runs a lot of formations on offense. They will move their best athletes around to get the matchup they want.“

Cloverdale (1-2, 1-0) at Cascade (1-2, 1-0)

The coaches: Tom Winders is in his first year at Cloverdale. Steve Spinks is in his second year at Cascade with a career record of 4-10.

The history: Cascade won 27-6 last year on its home field in sectional action, after the Clovers won 8-6 in the regular season. Cascade has won 22 of the last 28 meetings.

So far: Cloverdale lost 20-6 to South Putnam, lost 21-13 to Greencastle and defeated Edgewood 19-10. Cascade lost 47-13 to Danville and 57-20 to Monrovia before defeating Brown County 15-8 last week.

Opponents’ records: Cloverdale 3-6, Cascade 6-3.

Points per game: Offensive — Cloverdale 12.7, Cascade. Defensive — Cloverdale 17.0, Cascade .

WIC impact: Both teams won their conference opener last week, and are in a three-way tie for first place in the East Division.
