The Indiana State Board of Education Tuesday selected Matt Voors as its new executive director during its monthly board meeting conducted at DePauw University in Greencastle.

Additionally, the board approved of updated the A-F Grade Appeal Procedures.

In a 11-0 vote, the board approved the selection of Voors following a motion introduced by Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick, who chairs the board.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to serve Hoosier students,” Voors said. “I am looking forward to working closely with Superintendent McCormick and State Board of Education members and staff as we collectively work to continue progress for all Hoosier students, teachers and schools.”

Voors, who was recommended to the board by Gov. Eric Holcomb, brings education expertise and experience serving Hoosier taxpayers. He was general counsel for the Indiana Department of Education, advising on legislative, regulatory and policy issues — including those related to state intervention of Indiana’s chronically failing and underperforming schools.

Additionally, Voors served as majority attorney for the Indiana State Senate as well as chief legal counsel for the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Voors will begin his new role Sept. 11.

In other new business, the board voted 11-0 to approve a joint resolution between the Indiana Department of Education and the board that updated the A-F grade appeal procedures for the review of the 2016-17 accountability category placement.
