County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Saturday

• At 2 a.m. Shaniah Ann Nichole Denny, 19, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 12:20 a.m. William R. Payne, 51, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

• At 12:18 a.m. Christopher L. Sutton, 40, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

Friday

• At 9:24 p.m. Timothy Taylor Webb, 21, Indianapolis, was booked in for possession of marijuana.

• At 3:41 p.m. Terrence Lamonette Bell, 49, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated-refusal and driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

• At 8:56 a.m. Chadd Matthew Fiscus, 31, Danville, was taken into custody on a local warrant for theft.

• At 3:20 a.m. Sydney Ann Cash, 18, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• An Indianapolis man was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 3:27 a.m. on Sunday following a single-vehicle wreck.

At 12:27 a.m. Mitchell W. McGowen, 30, Indianapolis, was southbound on County Road 375 West in a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera.

McGowen told Deputy Robert Soilleux he had been drinking and did not know the road. He was going too fast for a corner and left the road, hitting a tree.

Uninjured in the crash, McGowen refused medical aid.

However, he tested at .15 percent on the portable breath test and at .13 on the certified test.

McGowen was arrested on charges of operating per se and driving while intoxicated.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

Deputy Riley Houghton assisted with the investigation.

• At 6:13 a.m. on Monday, Dianna M. Mann, 31, Cloverdale, was northbound on State Road 243 just north of Lieber State Recreation Area in a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country.

Mann told Capt. Tom Helmer that deer emerged from the heavy woods in the area and Mann could not avoid hitting it.

The van was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Deputy Soilleux assisted with the investigation.

City Police

Five recent summonses were issued by Greencastle City Police.

• At 5:44 a.m. Sunday, Cody Batchelor, 22, Greencastle, was stopped on North Locust Street by Capt. Chris Jones.

Issued a summons into court for possession of paraphernalia, Batchelor was then released from the scene.

• At 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Josiah Lawson, 23, Coatesville, was stopped on East Franklin Street by Capt. Charles Inman.

Lawson was released from the scene after being issued a summons for reckless possession of paraphernalia.

• At 12:04 p.m. Friday, Brian Bartley, 37, Brazil, was issued a summons by Capt. Jones.

Stopped on South Jackson Street, Bartley was cited for driving with a suspended license.

• At 12:28 a.m. Friday, Wendy Westfall, 38, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Capt. Jones after being stopped on Percy Julian Drive.

Westfall will be summoned into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

She was ticketed for driving left of center and operating without financial responsibility (no insurance).

• At 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Nicholas Zimmerman, 19, Cloverdale, was issued a summons from Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on South Jackson Street, Zimmerman was cited for driving while suspended and released from the scene.

Two recent citations were issued by GPD officers.

• At 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Charles Mettler, 22, Huntington, was ticketed for speeding by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Mettler was cited for 53 mph in a 30-mph zone.

• At an unreported time Sunday, Kristine Walker, 45, Greencastle, was cited by Capt. Inman.

Walker was ticketed for 50 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by city officers.

• At 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at U.S. 231 and Edgelea Drive.

Sgt. Ed Wilson reported that Kaylee Hughes, 17, Greencastle, was attempting to exit Edgelea and turn south onto U.S. 231 in a 2003 Toyota Corolla.

She reportedly thought a northbound 2016 Chevrolet, driven by Nancy Price, 76, Greencastle, was going to turn and pulled into the path of the Price vehicle.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:14 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, a car-semi accident occurred on the southwest corner of the courthouse square.

Patricia Green, 68, Greencastle, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu and had stopped on Washington Street for a red light when a 1999 Volvo semi, driven by Tor Tomasz, 53, Hickory Hills, was turning east off Jackson Street onto Washington.

Tomasz told Capt. Jones his trailer got too far over and struck the front driver’s side of the Green car.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to seven dispatches and three medical runs.

• At 2:17 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to reports of a gas leak at 1023 Castlebury Dr. GFD monitored the air but was unable to detect any gas, prompting crews to reset the alarm and return to station at 2:37 p.m.

• At 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 415 S. Locust St. The alarm was determined to have been set off unnecessarily due to cooking in the basement of the building. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 7:54 p.m.

• At 11:01 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to unknown reasons at 208 E. Olive St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 11:14 p.m.

• At 1:58 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to unknown reasons at 208 E. Olive St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 2:10 a.m.

• At 7:13 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to reports of a gas leak at 810 Indianapolis Rd. GFD monitored the air but was unable to detect any gas. GFD subsequently reset the alarm and returned to station at 7:49 a.m.

• At 7:05 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to reports of a gas leak at the intersection of County Road 50 South and Fillmore Road. However, GFD monitored the air only to find no gas, prompting crews to reset the alarm and return to station at 7:15 p.m.

• At 11:35 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 414 S. Indiana St. GFD reset the alarm before returning to station at 11:49 a.m.
