Splash park days are numbered for this year

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Time is running out for dashing through the sprayers and sprinklers at the Bob York Splash Park this summer.

The Greencastle Park Board has given Director Rod Weinschenk permission to close the splash park for the season once the weather hits a stretch of four consecutive days below 80 degrees.

While warm weather is expected through the weekend, a dip in temperatures is being predicted for next week.

The city pool is already closed and will be winterized beginning Monday, Weinschenk said.

He would like to do the same with the splash park soon "so we don't end up with problems like we had last year," Weinschenk said of an issue that developed with leaks beneath the concrete pad at the splash park.

With warmer weather persisting last year, the splash park stayed open into early October.
