Fillmore postpones paving Putnam Street
FILLMORE -- The Fillmore Town Council approved postponing repairs to Putnam Street until next spring because there was not enough money designated for the project in the budget.
“We’re not getting Putnam Street done,” President Curt Leonard said. “It’s plain and simple as that. It’s going to be next year. To the people that live on Putnam Street, I’m really sorry they got their hopes up. I promise we tried.”
Town Maintenance Director Joe Cash suggested putting it in gravel until a better solution could be found. The council did not rule out the idea, but made no official decision.
Cash said that the road has been patched for 15 years.
Talk of repairing the street had started in February.
In other developments:
-- Public safety: Leonard, fellow council member Robin Duncan and a resident complained of a reckless driver as well as a minor seen with a gun.
Town Marshall Darrell Bunten said residents need to report such problems to authorities.
“People need to call and don’t,” Bunten said. “If people don’t call we can’t do anything about it.”
Putnam County Dispatch can be reached by calling 911 in an emergency or by dialing 653-5115, ext. 0, in non-emergency situations.
-- Police car: Leonard reported the town is seeking trade in its 2002 Marauder for an SUV.
Bunten said it would be best for the town to get a GM, Chevrolet or Ford V8 with four-wheel drive.
The Fillmore Town Council’s next regular meeting will be Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Fillmore Town Hall.
