PREP ROUNDUP: Tiger Cubs blank Edgewood; Eagles beat Linton in tennis

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Greencastle beat Edgewood at home 5-0 on Tuesday in boys’ soccer action.

Tiger Cub coach J.D. Sims noted that his team’s scoring started early with Ben Parsons putting on pressure that led to the him scoring the first goal.

“The boys controlled much of the possession in the first half, keeping Edgewood from really finding any buildup play,” Sims said.

Simon Foss would be the next player to find the back of the net with a shot from the top of the box, with an assist delivered by Jack Romer.

Parsons ended the first half with a goal assisted by Ben Wilkerson.

In the second half, Sims said Greencastle came out “a little slow” and let Edgewood get back into the game.

“After 15 minutes in, Greencastle found its composure and took control of the half,” Sims said.

Jakob Foss took a free kick that was given from a foul taken by Evan Crowe.

To wrap up the game, Sims said Kevin Polster played a beautiful “through ball,” splitting the defense and allowing Crowe for a one-on-one with the keeper which he finished.

Greencastle will now be focusing its attention on the WIC Conference championship game against Brown County.

The match will be at home at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
