Cloverdale’s boys and Greencastle’s girls won the team titles on Saturday in the Tiger Cub Invitational at Greencastle.

Cloverdale’s boys scored 57 team points to edge runnerup North Putnam by six points. Rylan Hall led the Clovers by placing fourth, while Chase Ashcraft placed fifth.

Cloverdale coach Andy Tyler was happy with his team’s effort on Saturday.

“They push each other every day in practice,” Tyler said. “They have put in the work all season, this is a great example of a team effort. Our seniors have pushed the underclassmen, and Eddie [Mannan] and Abel [Bates] have been a solid foundation for us all year.”

Tyler is pleased with Hall and Ashcraft forming a “formidable 1-2 punch” for his team.

“We have a good pack running behind them,” he said. “They realize it took a team effort to win.”

North Putnam was led by Caleb Duncan, who placed second overall individually.

Cougar coach Kevin Lutes thought his team could have done better, but noted the Cougars had their best-ever finish.

“In general, we need to be more aggressive while we race,” he said. “I feel like we missed a few opportunities to pick up points here and there, but finishing second is the best we’ve ever placed at this meet.”

Ben Gellman was fourth to lead Greencastle.

In the girls’ race, Greencastle had four of the top six runners in defeating runnerup Bloomfield by 10 points.

Emma Wilson remained undefeated on the season by winning the individual title, while Sydney Kallem was second.

Neither Cloverdale nor North Putnam had enough runners for the team competition, but both teams had good performances.

Lily Monnett placed fourth for the Clovers, while teammate Macie Couch was right behind in fifth.

“Lily and Macie had gutsy performances,” coach Tyler said. “If we can stay healthy, I like our chances on getting them out of the sectional.”

The Cougars were led by freshmen Anna Haste (sixth) and Grace Elmore (seventh).

“I was disappointed that we weren’t able to field a complete girls’ team, as we had one unable to finish,” coach Lutes said. “It was nice to have all four girls in the top 20.”

Middle school races were also run, with Bloomfield winning the boys’ title and North Clay taking the girls’ crown.
