Betty Bunten

Betty Jo Bunten, 82, of Apison, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017.

Betty was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She worked for DePauw University and Heartfelts. She enjoyed her volunteer work for the Cystic Fibrous Foundation and headed numerous fundraisers in the Kansas City, Mo., area.

She loved to travel the world with her husband after he retired, but they always made the time to make family road trips every summer and created memories that will last a lifetime.

She was preceded in death by Doyle Bunten, her loving husband of 57 years; parents Ralph and Edna Shonkwiler; and brothers Bernard, Wayne, and Eugene Shonkwiler.

She is survived by her son John (Teresa) Bunten; daughter Brenda (Greg) Schloesser; sister Maxine Stage; grandchildren Jason (Candice) Schloesser and Dustin Schloesser; great-grandchildren Abby, Reid, and Riley Schloesser; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, Tenn.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Hall and Bryan Danzler officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
