CLAYTON – Greencastle junior Emma Wilson won her third straight individual title in the Western Indiana Conference cross country meet on Saturday morning at Cascade to highlight performances of Putnam County athletes.

Wilson recorded her best-ever time of 17:29.94 in easily winning the girls’ race and remaining undefeated on the season.

The Tiger Cubs were dethroned as team champions, placing seventh after winning the past two seasons.

Other all-conference runners from Putnam County were South Putnam’s Chelsie Edwards (ninth) and Lexi Vanihel (14th) and Cloverdale’s Lily Monnett (13th).

Edgewood won the team title with 40 points.

North Putnam coach Kevin Lutes was pleased with how his team ran.

“Almost all our girls ran their personal bests,” he said. “It was great to see our Cougars giving it their all. Sydney Sims, our lone female senior, had her fastest race in her last conference meet.”

South Putnam placed third in the boys’ team standings, finishing 10 points behind first-place Brown County and two points behind runnerup Northview.

South Putnam’s Austin Rumley led Putnam County performers by placing third overall, while teammates Karl Egold (seventh) and Steven Schnepp (14th) also earned all-conference – as did Caleb Duncan of North Putnam (10th) and Ben Gellman of Greencastle (12th).

Lutes noted that all of his runners finished with personal best times.

“We asked for maximum effort and they definitely gave us all they had,” he said. “Congrats to Caleb Duncan for making all-conference.”

All four Putnam County teams will compete in the South Putnam Sectional at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
