Update on repaving work on Jackson, Washington and Indianapolis Road

Monday, October 9, 2017

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 11, Grady Brothers will be seal coating Jackson Street, Washington Street and Indianapolis Road in Greencastle. Work will continue as weather permits.

The work is being done as part of the overall pavement preservation and street resurfacing program supported by local tax dollars and grant funds provided through the Indiana Department of Transportation Community Crossings program.

Work is scheduled to start Wednesday morning in the northbound lane of Jackson Street at Poplar Street. Work will then proceed south from Poplar to just south of Veterans Memorial Highway.

It takes about three hours for the sealcoat to cure to allow for traffic. The contractor will provide flaggers to help with traffic management.

After the northbound lane is reopened to traffic, work will commence on the southbound lane on Jackson Street proceeding north from Veterans Memorial Highway to Poplar Street.

Upon the completion of Jackson Street, work will move to East Washington Street from Bloomington Street/U.S. 231 to Wood Street with a similar procedure of doing one lane of traffic at a time. Work will also continue on to Indianapolis Road from Percy Julian Drive to Round Barn Road.

The city asks that the public use alternate routes during this time period. In some locations intersections may be closed during the curing process.

Upon completion of the seal coating work, pavement markings and lane lines may not be visible. Until pavement markings are replaced, drivers are asked to use extra caution in these areas.

As always, the city asks the public to proceed with caution in any construction zone.
