Less than three months after a July 14 application for funds distributed as part of the state’s Community Crossings Grant through the Department of Transportation (INDOT), officials at Roachdale have officially received a check in the amount of $496,710.75 to improve nearly two of the town’s six miles of street.

Accepting the check from Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb in Martinsville on Monday, Oct. 2 were Council President Zach Bowers and Utility Superintendent Ronnie Campbell.

“Roachdale was very fortunate to be awarded the amount requested for all (14) projects we submitted,” Bowers said. “This is an amazing opportunity for the town of Roachdale to improve many streets all at once.

“Without this grant, it would take several years to accomplish all of these projects.”

Roachdale currently has approximately six miles of paved, public streets, many of which are in dire need of repaving after several projects have taken a toll on local surfaces, including rehabilitation projects for its storm- and waste-water systems, portions of which lie near or under the streets.

In no specific order, streets designated to be repaved are:

• Railroad Street from Indiana to East

• West Washington Street from the railroad tracks to Spring

• Spring Street from Washington to Railroad

• East Washington Street from East to the dead end

• Franklin Street from Main to Meridian

• Main Street from Forest Home to South

• Meridian Street from Grove to South

• South Street from Meridian to Walnut

• Walnut Street from Grove to South

• Grove Street from Main to the dead end

• Oak Street from Maple to the corner

• The road leading up to the Wastewater Treatment Plant

• Both the northern and southern approaches to the railroad tracks on Indiana Street
