HOLLANDSBURG -- Campers and visitors alike can celebrate Halloween with crafts, campsite decorating, costumes, trick-or-treating and more at Raccoon State Recreation Area on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The property is hosting its 24th annual Halloween Camping Weekend.

Activities start at 10 a.m. with a fan favorite activity, the “Raccowl” Egg Hunt, behind the camp store. Crafts and face painting will start at noon and run until 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel Shelter.

A costume contest for campers only begins at 3 p.m. next to the camp host site. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories: 5 and under; 6 to 11; and 12 to adult. There will also be prizes for the best group costume (two or more people), and the best pet costume.

Trick-or-treating in the campground runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and is open to both campers and the general public. Vehicle traffic in the campground will not be permitted during trick-or-treating. Parking is available at the campstore, main ramp, office and along Berry Drive.

After trick-or-treating will be an awards ceremony at 7:15 p.m. at the Chapel Shelter. The ceremony will recognize winners of costume and campsite contests with plaques and prizes.

Campground hayrides begin at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $2 per person.

All activities are free except hayrides. Donations will be accepted. Standard entrance fees of $7 per in-state vehicle and $9 per out-of-state vehicle apply.
