Who decides if an intersection needs a stopsign? What is a TIF district? When will my sidewalk get repaired? What does the City Council do?

On Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at City Hall residents are invited to join three members of the Greencastle City Council for a “Community Conversation.” Scheduled to attend the meeting are City Council members Stacie Langdon, Adam Cohen and Tyler Wade.

Langdon was elected to the City Council as the Second Ward representative in 2015. She is a 15-year resident of Greencastle and is employed with Old National Bank.

Langdon

Langdon is currently the Council liaison with the Cemetery Department, a member of the City Budget Committee and Council liaison to the 911 Committee. Wade serves as the city councilor for the Fourth Ward. He was first appointed to the position in 2014 and elected in 2015. During his time on the Council, Wade has focused on blighted properties, combating drugs, education, fiscal responsibility and human rights.

In addition to his work in the City, Wade is the associate director of enrollment systems at Wabash College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Wabash in 2012 and his master’s in student affairs in higher education from Miami University in 2014.

Cohen is in his third term representing the First Ward on the Greencastle Common Council and his ninth year as president of the Council. Cohen moved to Greencastle in the fall of 1987. He is head men’s swimming and diving coach and teaches kinesiology at DePauw University. In addition, he works at the Hartman Center in the division of spiritual life working with faith-based groups.

Wade

As president of the council, Cohen takes most pride in the fact that there has never been a party-line vote on Council. While president, the city has added police and a police dog, been a recipient of a stellar grant that has brought new life to downtown, in addition, he co-wrote legislation that affirmed that the town of Greencastle does not discriminate and that those that do business with it do not.

The Community Conversation series is sponsored by the Greencastle League of Women Voters, the Putnam County Public Library and the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce.

The goal of this new continuing program is to give the community an opportunity to hear from and speak to its elected and appointed government officials.
