Nov. 9 Purdue Club dinner to feature ‘Gold and Black’ publisher

Alan Karpick, publisher and president of the Gold and Black Illustrated, will be the featured speaker at a dinner program sponsored by the Purdue Club of Putnam County.

The Thursday, Nov. 9 program will begin at 6 p.m. at Autumn Glen.

Karpick, a West Lafayette native, oversees Boilers Inc., which includes the Gold and Black Illustrated magazine.

Purdue’s guide to all things sports; the Gold and Black Express, a digital interactive magazine; the GoldandBlack.com website; and Gold and Black radio. He also is the co-host of “Boilermaker Sports Wrap” after every Purdue football game on the Learfield Sports Network.

He also serves as president of the West Lafayette Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees.

A Purdue graduate with degrees in education and management, Karpick also has a master’s degree in sports management from West Virginia University. He also spent five years at Columbus, Ohio, where he started that city’s hockey franchise, The Chill.

Karpick has authored, or co-authored, several books on Purdue sports history, including “Boilermaker Basketball: Great Purdue Teams and Players,” “Tales from Boilermaker Country” and “Tales from the Purdue Boilermakers Locker Room: A Collection of the Greatest Boilermaker Stories Ever Told.”

Ron Birt, president of the Purdue Club, invites the public to this event.

He said, “This program will be a wonderful trip down Purdue sports memory lane. We invite everyone who follows Purdue sports to join us on Nov. 9.”

Cost of the dinner and program is $20 per adult and $10 per student.
