Democrat 4th District hopefuls at Greencastle Elks Sunday night

Thursday, October 26, 2017

Putnam County Democrats will host a public event featuring the three Democratic 4th District Congressional candidates -- Tobi Beck, Sherry Shipley and Joseph Mackey -- Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Elks Lodge in Greencastle.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. with each candidate having an opportunity to speak individually for up to 15 minutes.

Following that a panel discussion with audience participation is scheduled.

Gearing up for the 2018 election, Putnam Democrats have set a goal of completely filling the local ballot.

Meanwhile, the 4th District Republican field recently added a familiar local name as current District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) announced his intention to seek the 4th District congressional seat.

The seat is currently held by Todd Rokita (R-Avon) who plans to run for the U.S. Senate next year, setting off a rush of candidates on both sides of the aisle seeking the position that serves 16 west-central Indiana counties.
