Gayle Harlene Brown, 85, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017.

Gayle was born in Greencastle on Dec. 5, 1931, the daughter of Clifton Kendrick and Bessie Olive (Woodworth) Priest.

She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School.

Mrs. Brown worked for more than 20 years as a switchboard operator for DePauw University.

She attended First Baptist Church of Greencastle, and was a member of the Greencastle American Legion Post 58, Moose Lodge 1592 and VFW Post 1550.

Survivors include three children, Teresa Vaughan, (husband Larry), Greencastle, Kevin Brown, (wife Parivash), Carmel, and Myra Manny (husband Floyd), Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Doyne Priest; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John C. Brown; a son, Darwin Scott Brown; two brothers, Carroll and Wayne Priest; and a sister Joy Cooper.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Paul Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Chapel Cemetery.
