Four of DePauw’s starters scored in double figures and recorded career-highs as the Tigers defeated Franklin 90-72 in their home and season opener Wednesday.

David Vogel led the way with 22. Mason Hankins followed with 16, Andrew Kus scored 14 and Luke Steinhart recorded 10.

Freshman Josh Hall came off the bench to also score in double figures as he finished the night with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds, which included two putback dunks.

DePauw shot 55 percent (32-of-58) from the field, including an 18-of-27 performance (67 percent) in the second half. The Tigers were 6-of-16 from beyond the arc (38 percent) and 20-of-26 from the free throw line (77 percent).

Franklin finished at 44 percent (27-of-62) from the field, 31 percent from 3-point range (4-of-13) and 14-of-20 (70 percent) from the charity stripe.

DePauw outscored the Grizzlies in the paint 42-34, off turnovers 23-9, second chance points 11-8 and bench scoring 26-22.

Franklin held the early advantage in the first half and held its largest lead at 13-9 just seven minutes into the game. However, a Vogel 3-pointer at the 11:58 mark to make it 18-17 erased the Grizzlies’ last lead of the game.

DePauw entered halftime with a 41-34 lead, but Franklin got to within one at 41-40 just three minutes into the second half.

A DePauw timeout shifted gears, sparking a quick 6-0 run to put the Tigers back up by seven.

The Tigers then increased their lead to 10 at 56-46 at the 12:45 mark. The lead grew to as large as 20 at 84-64 with two minutes to play in the game.

Franklin (0-1) defeated DePauw 86-74 in last year’s season opener. DePauw leads the all-time series 69-51.

DePauw (1-0) will take part in the Lee Pfund Classic in Wheaton, Ill. this weekend and will play Wheaton today.
