CRAWFORDSVILLE – Hoosier Heartland State Bank is sponsoring up to four trips for teachers interested in going on the trip of a lifetime in 2018.

Winners will walk side by side with Holocaust survivor Eva Kor and hear her account of what happened inside the concentration camps.

One teacher from North Putnam and one teacher from each of the three Montgomery County school systems will be chosen.

“This is an amazing opportunity for educators to be able to walk through time,” Trey Etcheson of HHSB said in announcing the trip. “Hear firsthand from this amazing woman about her struggles and eventual freedom. We are beyond proud to be able to support this effort for four of our local educators.”

Winners will join CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center for an extraordinary experience as they travel to Auschwitz with survivor Eva Kor. They will walk in her footsteps, and hear her account of her arrival at Auschwitz, separation from her family, experimentation by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, the struggle for survival, and her and her twin sister Miriam’s liberation by the Soviet Army on Jan. 27, 1945.

Interested applicants can apply at https://www.myhhsb.com/files/Candles_Scholarship_Application.pdf

The application period runs through Nov. 30 and the winners will also be invited to attend the annual HHSB Shared Values event.
